St. Louis Equality Dance (SLED) is an all-volunteer group of dancers committed to supporting and growing the same-sex ballroom dance community in the St. Louis area. Our teacher & coach, Elena Lyashenko started a gay & lesbian ballroom dance class in 2004. This class grew into St. Louis Equality Dance. We hold weekly beginners Ballroom & Latin dance classes throughout the year. We teach the International style of ballroom dance along with a variety of social & nightclub dances.
Many of our dancers have participated in international queer events like the quadrennial Out Games and Gay Games events.
From September – May, SLED holds monthly sessions, focusing on one dance. Each class builds on the previous week.
Our beginner classes are open to all ages, levels of ability, and genders. Our intermediate dancers always participate in the beginner class, rotating partners, assisting new dancers. We have found that beginners learn quicker and more easily with this method.
During the summer months, June – August, we go on hiatus.
Bring a friend, partner, or come by yourself – no dance partner required.
All dancers must be fully vaccinated and boosted. Masks required.
